Choose Your Own Topic / Psychology of Belief

The funny thing is There is a very strong case could be made that individuals become atheists as a bi-product of a few psychological deficiencies/disorders
This is why the desired outcome of this post is defeated

I agree 100 percent with tcampen and sceptical guy here.  I think people are prematurely drawing conclusions based upon and emotional predisposition.  We honestly don't know in any objective sense who initiated the confrontation and what actually happened just media speculation the wise thing to do would be to allow more evidence to come in and evaluate then.  For instance I thought trevon matting was some small kid the way he was portrayed but apparently he is 6foot 3.  I think if we didn't know the race of the 2 individuals involved there would be far less speculation and more patience with respect to the investigation.   It is a tragedy when anyone dies particularly a young man.  Of in fact he was an innocent victim the incredible media exposure will perhaps help increase the effectiveness of our justice system.

Deism is far from atheism and technically falls under the umbrella of theism.  Only if we completely distorted the definition of deism could one believe it is closer to atheism.

What good point did an atheist make on this thread?  It seems some unsupported assertions were proclaimed.  Msheekas post were completely relevant to sceptical guys usual emotionally driven rambling about religious people being intolerant

Crash you make a lot if unsupported blanket statements .  This one about WLC being a arrogant and ivory tower like debater is some of your common rhetoric.  I would respect this statement far more if for once you could provide an example of said behavior.  Honestly WLC is very charitable and humble to his opponents.  This cannot be said about most atheists.  See christopher hit hens for example. When atheists make negative remarks about WLC character it just see like an attempt to divert attention from the fact that his arguments have you intellectually stifled.

Have you read the book? Is he essentially distinguishing between "object" naturalism and "subject" naturalism.

However the influence Christianitu has had on western culture has been mostly positive considering the tenets of Christianitu led to the majority of equal rights movements public education and our modern hospital system.  I think we're just fortunate to not be a part of a culture ruled by an atheistic dictatorship as evidence by the atrocities of the past

Honestly depth charge I couldn't agree with you anymore.  Wonderer kinda seems like a disingenuous one trick pony to me.  He simply asserts things, when people respond he usually responds in a smug manner suggesting someone to read hundreds of pages of literature to increase their understanding to his all mighty level.  He offers people complex solutions to problems and then relies on ochams razor when simplicity benefits his cause.  I'm really surprised more posters here don't realize this about him.  The op seed like a argument and a decent one at that, but as soon as people respond adequately the op is no longer an argument.

From an atheistic perspective " the blind watchmaker" is a quick colorful read.  Dawkins is a talented writer and fairly entertaining despite the fact that I disagree with his conclusions with regards to the existence of God.  It's not exactly a book on atheism but Hawking and mladinov's book was a quick easy read which you could easily finish in one sitting.  From a theistic point of view any CS Lewis book is great although not heavy philosophically.  I really enjoy a lot of plantingas work.  I also like the blackwellcompanion to natural theology.

Rsmartin don't be so arrogant and unreasonable, atheist apologists saying there is no such thing as doing something in the name of atheism carries next to know truth value based on the cognitive dissonance they have with respect to the matter, simply reassertinh that and then going on a emotional Darrow isn't beneficial and doesn't make your case any stronger.

Saying ridiculous things vs.  being overtly angry and bitter on websites that support belief in things you don't believe exist, hmmm...  People wonder why theists believe atheism is rooted in emotion, it couldn't be any more obvious judging by the behavior exhibited from most.

The only thing I would say about Dawkins as advice Neilfrompta is to perhaps address him as Dr. Dawkins or professor Dawkins instead of Mr. Dawkins there is no need to do what he does to Dr. Craig with respect to his title.  Great point about the atrocities committed by atheist regimes, that truly cannot be understated.

I would define inconsistent as championing consensus when they agree with you and then ignoring it when you agree with the minority, kind of like your feelings about Robery price.
