Choose Your Own Topic / A trilingual Christmas tale :-)
« on: December 24, 2013, 08:27:31 am »
Dear fellows,

I have just written a Christmas tale in three languages taking place in my region.

I'd really love to learn what your impression of it is.

Lovely greetings in Christ and merry Christmas.

P.S: due to the presence of many pictures and format, it was very difficult to copy the content here.
I apologize for this.

Many people skeptical of the truth of the Christian faith hold fast on the idea that Jesus of Nazareth was just an ordinary man among many others.

According to them, the origin of the Christian faith can be understood as follows:

1) After the death of Jesus the disciples experienced wonderful hallucinations which made them believe he rose from the dead

2) They didn’t believe in an empty tomb, this aspect was completely irrelevant for them

3) Paul held the same belief

4) Later writers made up stories about the honorary burial of Jesus and the empty grave

There are many not-implausible, contradictory theories about the historical Jesus which are hard to evaluate owing to the lack of hard data.

But I believe this kind of scenarios can be ruled out as being unlikely.

There were after and before Jesus time quite a few Jewish apocalyptic prophets who suffered an atrocious death as martyrs. Why did none of their followers develop a faith in the resurrection of their master? Why did none of them develop a faith that their master was God Himself?

Both aspects were present within the early Church very soon after the death of Jesus.

So I believe that the minimal conclusion that there is something special about Jesus of Nazareth is warranted.

Further conclusions are going to be hugely dependent on the presuppositions of one’s worldview.

P.S: this was a blog post I published several months ago. I tried to draw minimal conclusions about Jesus. I'd be glad to learn your reaction to that.

Hello, I have been horrified by the recent Calvinist assertions during "Strange Fire".
McArthur and other New Calvinists state that 500 millions Charismatics are non-believers.
I will turn this assertion on its head.

All are my fellow humans I ought to love, but if McArthur and Piper worship a being who PREDETERMINED so many people to burn forever, caused their eternal suffering before they were born, then THEY are not my fellow believers for we truly don’t worship the same God.

I know it is hard but this blasphemy is so serious that I need to expose it as clearly as possible, even though I don’t want to uselessly hurt someone.

I started a series of post on Calvinism from a progressive Christian perspective:

I would be glad if more conservative Arminians (and Calvinists) would join in the conversations so that we will have an interesting and respectful discussion.

This is a general invitation I also sent elsewhere, I hope this does not bother you.
I want to foster an open discussion about the implications of this theology.
I apologize if you feel annoyed by that, I know that some people view that as spamming while it is fully acceptable for others.

Lovely greetings from Europe.

Choose Your Own Topic / How the hell is the Bible inspired?

Hello folks.

The question of how the Bible should be viewed is a very important one and I offer some of my modest thoughts here:

I'd be glad to receive (critical) comments wherever you want.

Please tell me if this forum is not appropriate for such discussions.

Lovely greetings.

Hello folks.

In all my interactions with materialists who hold fast on the idea of an objective morality, I've realized that their favorite strategy is to DEFINE an objective materialist ethics into existence.

They say that a feeling is a ensemble of physical and chemical processes which leads an organism to act in a certain manner and dominate its behavior.

Pain is a set of physical and chemical processes which leads an organism to avoid or search to avoid a certain situation.

Something is significant or meaningful for an organism if it exerts a great influence on its behavior in a way non-conscious processes don't.

Pain is objectively meaningful because evolution programmed our brain to search to reduce it both in ourselves and in other living things (empathy).

Saying that we ought to do something simply means that we should act in a certain way to fulfill our dominant evolutionary desires.

Morality is our striving to reduce pain and increase pleasure.

And so morality exists and is objective by definition.
What is more, this definition is almost perfectly consistent with the way the man in the street views morality.

Now I am sure that a materialist could come up with more sophisticated definitions of these words than those I have proposed.

What's your take on that?

Lovely greetings from continental Europe.

Choose Your Own Topic / Learning more about probabilistic thinking
« on: August 30, 2013, 02:55:43 pm »
Hey folks.

I'm trying to better understand the way proponents of Bayesianism think.

One can define objectively a probability as the frequency of the event.

Subective Bayesians define probability in terms of the degree of confidence one has something is true.

I've troubles understanding how objective Bayesianism could ever be coherent, could someone help me?

I've seen Baye theorem in debates about God's existence being used by atheists and theists alike.

But it always seems to me that some of the basic values coming in the formula are hopelesly subjective.

Is that also your impression?

Many thanks for your answers!

There is a popular atheistic moral ontology (defended among others by the incredible Richard Carrier) out there called Desirism according to which the statement "a man ought not to rape a woman" is COMPLETELY IDENTICAL to the statement “a male homo-sapiens with a brain working properly would naturally feel empathy and not desire to rape a woman”.

It is further argued that it is objective since we all share an evolved nature, and that (almost) every species of advanced space aliens will have a strong EMPATHY because otherwise they could not develop a civilization capable of technological achievement.
What are your thoughts on that?
Do you believe it means the success of having grounded once and for all a godless morality?
Or does it rather reek of wishful thinking?

Hello dear brothers and sisters,

I don't want to shock anyone, but I believe it is sometimes  necessary to be confronted with troubling facts in order to advance in ones spiritual life.

The links between Luther and Nazism is extremely troubling.

At the end of my article, I raise the question how can God allow someone to experience some aspects of him while tolerating dangerous mistakes.

I look forward to reading your reaction to this difficult problem. I hope we can grow together by exchanging and correcting our own thoughts.

Lovely greetings from Germany.
Liebe Grüsse aus Deutschland.
