Charles, I think you're mistaken about whether I harangue people, because I only seemed aggressive when I wrote.  I didn't feel that way.  Yes, I'm passionate about reintegrative therapy.  But I'm not looking for a fight.  A compared a gay man's search for perfect masculinity to the progressive's search for a secular utopia because both searches are futile.

Plato's dialogues made me love ancient Greece.  So I'v ignored plenty of history.. But Dinesh D'Sousa shocked me deeply when he said that the Spartans left babies outdoors to die because Spartans didn't believe in inherent human worth.  I don't any merely human  society as perfect.  That's partly because I believe the progressivist's utopia is an unreachable goal.  In fact, it reminds me of Federalist Paper 10.   That paper seems to say that although people aren't virtuous, science teaches us enough about human nature for us to be able to control people to make a happy society.  God isn't in that  modernist picture.  Utopians want to create something perfect when their flaws prevent that when they deny that there's a God who'll sanctify them.  They're something like male homosexuals who idealize other men.  They're looking for perfect masculinity when they have sex with other men.  They can't find it in their sex partners because those men are looking hopelessly for the same thing.  Dr. Joseph Nicolosi quotes a gay man who says something like this, "I want a real man.  But real men don't want me, since they prefer women."


Bill, I often agree with much of what you say except when you go on these homosexual harangues. My best friend's son is homosexual and married to a homosexual. They are a wonderful loving couple. My friend's son didn't come from some sexually dysfunctional family and her other two children are straight.. As a long-time psychologist and family therapist she has recounted to me how even at an early age her son displayed homosexual tendencies and she was not at all surprised when he told her he was. He's a very fine man, as is his marriage partner. If heterosexual marriages were as good as theirs, there would be far fewer divorces.
I'm not going to harangue you not, but I will make one, point, Charles.  The often very subtle harm that causes male homosexuality can happen early enough in life to suggest that a boy was born  homosexual.  But no one is born that way.  In his book "Shame and Attachment Loss," Dr. Nicolosi describes a young man who felt SSA, even when his home life seemed perfectly normal.  The problem was a narcissistic mother who used the boy to meet her emotional needs.

I'll bet your friend's son felt his first SSA when he was between 12 and 15.

Many gay affirmative therapists dismiss reintegrative therapy because the American Psychological Association doubts that it works.  The APA also admits that there's no consensus about what causes SSA.

The late Robert Spitzer, M.D., the psychiatrist who helped removed same-sex attraction disorder from the DSM, then discovered that that sexual orientation can change.  So gay rights activists treated him mercilessly enough that he apologized and said that he would never discuss homosexuality again.

I won't hijack this thread., and since I promised not start any more homosexuality-related ones.  But I  know how to defend what I believe about homosexuality.  In fact, I can defend it more persuasively that I can argue for Thomism..

At the time, did that include women or blacks or slaves?
How did slaves have "liberty"?

It's important to separate the high flown rhetoric from the reality. It's the reality that is the measure of a government and nation, not the rhetoric.
Lapwing, Jefferson may have used "men" in its sex-neutral sense.

If God gave each person a right to liberty, the slave owners violated that right.  But since Jefferson was a Freemason, it's not clear to me that the word "Creator" stands for the God of the Bible when it's used in the Declaration of Independence.  For a Mason, the word "God" can signify any real or imaginary deity.  Masons can take their pick or be atheists or agnostics.

Charles, I'm sorry to hear that we share pessimism about our country.  For me, it's sad to remember that although I love the U.S,, I want to move to London partly because I don't want to even vote in American elections.  American history has never interested me.  But I love  to learn about Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, especially Ancient Greece because I admire Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.  I would be wonderful to live in a society where even children in their early teens want to talk about the subjects Socrates discussed with his conversation partners.

To me, it's strange to know that what Americans conserve, classical liberalism, is a left-wing ideology and that the U.S. Constitution is a radical document.  I care about the nuclear family, i.e., the nation's building block, custom, tradition, social institutions, solidarity among citizens, and the common  good.  I'm studying corporatism, where you organize society around industries and found unions that are like medieval guilds.  The government protects a State religion and intervenes sometimes when it needs to protect morality, the weak, and the common good.  It's against socialism and a market economy that allows usury.  By American conservative(?) standards, it probably will sound left-wing.  But it's not that.  It's the economic system in Salazar's Portugal.

Finding Jesus sitting in the VIP tent listening to Trump brag on about the military, or feeding the poor, visiting a homeless shelter, and healing the sick?
I'm not sure that patriotism (especially of the Trumpian variey) can ever rightly align with following Jesus. That is not to say that governments can't have principles founded in Biblical teaching and that we can't favor those over governments not founded on Biblical teaching.
I love my country, but not its government. The U.S.A. is my national home where my family and my dearest friends live.  It's a beautiful country full of the most generous people in the world,  Although I'm mostly against immigration, this country demolishes cultural relativism by attracting millions of immigrants.  It's always ready to  help its allies.  In Manhattan, most people seem self-centered and unfriendly when I'm wandering there.  But in general, the kindest, warmest people I've ever met have been other Americans.  Patriotism is love for the fatherland, not love for the government.

But I hate how democratic elections can help legalize things like abortion, same-sex so-called marriage, euthanasia, socialist policies, and the sale of abortion-causing contraceptives.  I don't care for American individualism that atomizes American society and fractures national unity.  I want the country to end illegal immigration and to control legal immigration.  People who immigrate legally can refuse to assimilate and form enclaves that could turn this country into a group of mini "foreign" ones.  Legal immigrants may be terrorists or people who use entitlement  programs when those people can and should work instead.  Immigrants, legal or illegal, come here, work for low wages, and drive wages down for others who should be able to raise a family on one income.  Hospitals can't afford to keep treating illegal aliens for free.  Entitlement programs take moral obligations from people who ought to do what the government does instead.  People die in this country because government can't afford to buy them needed medical care.  And that's partly because the country attracts people who don't belong here.  It's one thing to want to move to a genuinely great country when you want to be a citizen there.  It's quite another thing to take unfair advantage of it because it can't or won't say "no,"

A few years ago, my friend Angie died at about 87 because she was on government-provided Comfort Care.  Comfort Care gives elderly only what they need to feel physically comfortable.  It won't help pay for lifesaving surgery.  When you can't be a productive citizen anymore, you become a financial burden for government-sponsored healthcare.  So in effect, the government decides who will live and who will die.

Thanks to the First Amendment and separation of church and state, Christians become a persecuted group while progressive Democrats protect Islam, abortion, and sexual deviance.  You probably can't hang the 10 Commandments in a public place because if you do, someone will complain that you're trying to establish a religion or to impose your beliefs on other people.  On the Fox News Network, a political pundit was showing off his outdoor Christmas lights on the air when a woman told him to take them down because they offended her.  If the Democrat Party got its wish, the U.S. probably would be a secular utopia.

Some probably are.
Of course some are, but I may have mentioned a study that may have been less biased than many others.  Two gay researchers, a psychologist and a psychiatrist who happened to be a couple, studied fidelity among gay couples.  After it, they told other gay people that if they wanted their partnerships to last, they needed to expect infidelity and tolerate it.  If that's true, it may be because, as van den Aardweg writes, partner-seeking is compulsive.

Confirmation bias is a big problem.

The issue is that the fallacious reasoning stems from ignoring biological facts, like the differences between genotype and phenotype, due to ideology. This is particularly concerning as you express your desire to conduct therapeutic practice based on those views. A therapist trying to convince a person with a female phenotype that she is male might do considerable harm.
Jabber, that's not my purpose, since I mean to work with male homosexuals, not with gender dysphorics.  Reparative therapy isn't meant to convince someone that he's male or that she's female.  It's about healing shame and the other emotional wounds that underly same-sex attractions.  My future clients, if I ever get any, will already know that they're male.  The therapy is called "reparative therapy" because although the male homosexual doesn't know it, his homosexual drive is his way to try to heal those wounds. 

The harmful therapists are the unqualified so-called conversion therapists who try mostly to change the client's behavior and to change his sexual orientation.  People who do that are treating symptoms, not the causes of those symptoms.  No one can "straighten" a homosexual many by, say, whipping him or shocking his genitals.  Those cruel methods shame people and shame is a root cause of same-sex attractions.  Conversion therapy ought to be outlawed and anyone who uses those horrible tactics belongs in jail or in prison.

My paper is going to be about how LGBTQ ideology harms homosexuals.  It harms them by convincing people with unwanted SSA that those attractions can't even diminish.  So many of those suffering people commit suicide in despair, but not because they live in a homophobic society.  LGBT ideology harms gay people by advocating same-sex marriage when steady gay partnerships get men to look compulsively for other sex partners.  That ideology hurts gay people by urging them to have physically dangerous sex and by reinforcing the narcissism that you see during pride parades.  During therapy, many SSA men complain that their parents never saw them a what and whom they are.  That's why the marchers march flamboyantly and offensively.  They want other men to watch them and to know that they marchers are men.

Dr. van den Aardweg says that psychologically, male homosexuals are in either late childhood or their teens.  Since they are there, he'll tell you, their romantic love is self-interested puppy love that vanishes when the lovers' needs aren't being met anymore.

When do SSA men want to have sex?  When they're depressed, lonely, feeling bad about themselves, or feeling shamed.  While they feel happy, loved, confident, good about themselves, and connected to other people, they don't feel SSA.  Or if they feel it, it won't get them to act out sexually.

Jabber, remember that gender dysphoria used to be called "gender-identity disorder" because people with that disorder believe that they're of one sex when they're of the other one instead.  The condition's name changed to "gender dysphoria" because if the condition didn't trouble its patients, it couldn't be diagnosed as a disorder.

I'm not confusing genotype and phenotype, since I know that genotype often determines phenotype.  But some people have phenotypic properties suggesting that the person is of one sex when he's instead of the other one.

Jabber, I never said that the human soul decides anyone's gender, since I think gender is a grammatical, nonbiological property.  So when I use the word "gender," I'm talking about grammar, not about the differences males and females.  I believe that a human soul causes a human person to be a human person, even if his body includes biological anomalies.  God creates males and females.  Even if someone seems to be a sexual hybrid, Dr. Cretella and I still believe that each human person is either male or else female.  That's an exclusive or.   Sex is the biological one and there are exactly two sexes.  Ideologues redefined the word "gender" in the 20th century, which you'll know if you read dictionaries published after about 1940.  Cisgenderism and so forth are merely human inventions.  Now there are about 52 so-called genders  with no a priori limit on that running total.  Why?  Because many on the political left are awash in sexual ideology, subjectivism and narcissism.

Am I a judging anyone?  No, I'm not.  If I were, I wouldn't want to be a reintegrative therapist.  Nor would I write the paper I'm researching now, a paper about how LGBT ideology harms gay people.  I'm not a scientist and would't  want to be one.  Since I'm not one, that may help explain some fallacious reasoning I may do during this conversation.  But other subjects interest me much, much more than science ever has and much more than it ever will.  I can much more about metaphysics, Catholic theology, and the common good, and how to relieve the pain that LGBT ideology prolongs.
