A Question About Church
« on: April 08, 2015, 08:44:46 am »
Greetings friends - first time poster here.

In his Defender 2 series, section 12, Doctrine of the Church, Dr. Craig speaks of the difference between sacraments and ordinances and makes a comment that our view of whether certain things are sacraments or ordinances will likely depend upon whether we see the church as a fellowship of believers or more (in a manner of speaking) as a sacrament in and of itself. (My paraphrase.)

I believe I see exactly where he is going with this idea (which was a new idea to me) but I wonder which of these views "fellowship" vs. "sacrament" would be considered to be the more traditional or orthodox viewpoint for Protestant churches and where others generally find themselves on this scale (assuming you agree with the scale.)

Welcome to the forum!  Applauded for transitioning out of lurkdom!

We might read the early church fathers or the Didache, in order to see how the early church considered these things.
