I joined this forum yesterday after lurking for a time. One thread really caught my interest, the one about choosing atheism or Christianity with the precondition that atheism was true.  I went through the registration process, and made a few posts, but they are still, after more than 24 hours, awaiting moderator approval.

How long does it take to get a post approved, and is this the normal way the forum works, or is this a probationary precaution?  If a precaution, then how long does the probationary period last?

Maybe the moderator or moderators are all out on vacation or dealing with actual important issues of real life.  Benefit of doubt is always my policy.  Just wondering if anyone can advise.  But shoot, this won't show up either.  D'OH!

Thanks to Ethos, I'm now live on the forum.  He/she advised that probation is five posts duration.  I can do five posts while my cup of coffee is brewing in the Keurig.  :). And they'll all be brilliant too.  Too me at least.  :D

Could someone kindly let me know if threads are deleted after a certain period of time?  I was just informed that one of mine was deleted, and I can't find it.   When I've been notified of its deletion?

 Thank you.

Maybe there was a malfunction with the Simple Machines Forum software and 'smite' got replaced with 'delete'.

Suggestion - New Members Welcome/Intro thread
« Reply #37 on: November 30, 2015, 05:25:20 pm »
What this place needs is a...
"New Members Welcome Thread/Forum"

Sticky somewhere near 'Teh Rulez' thread.

Upon joining, invite to all newly registered users to consider posting a self-intro.

Everybody piles on the newbie with friendly greetings and general house warming to break the ice.

Moderate the intro/welcome threads with a strict "No Debate" "No AvT Agenda pushing" rule.

Let's see to it that newly registered users don't just lurk and leave.

It is my humble opinion that the stickies are becoming an eye-sore.  One or two, ok...but they keep growing with all these "ideas" of threads to sticky up.

People are amusing.

Eyesore? How so?
And which one or two would you keep?

Besides, the sticky headers are only in the Choose Your Own Topic sub-forum.
They are necessary partly because they would otherwise get lost in the fast moving scroll of other threads about Star Wars, Rick Astley, art appreciation, used cars, how to make good investment decisions post-GFC, Aldo vs McGregor mixed martial arts, Christmas gift ideas.......

The sticky'd items have no real value to me ( except in this one case here. ) .

I'd keep Forum Rules and Guidelines...and the New Members Greet.

We could have a "Read this first" forum, with most of the stickies.
The other fora could then have a single sticky thread that would tell whether new material had been posted in the "Read this first" forum.

I don't know if it is possible to have a single (sticky) thread be visible in more than one forum - if so, that would be the easiest and handiest solution: if I read that thread in one forum, it would be read in all the other fora, and not flag me spuriously.

I tend to post and run, but always hope to return eventually.  Don't hold your breath, though.

I have very little energy at the moment, so don't expect much of me right now.

Is bumping one's own post ethical?

Only slightly less so than getting your wingman to bump it for you.
