A.C. Grayling makes a strong point about God and explanatory power. Any time you'd want to say that something is a certain way because of God, simply use 'Fred' instead. Why is there something rather than nothing? Fred. Why is there order, logic, life? Fred. It forces us into the entire thrust of epistemic justification. That is, giving explanatory narratives which entail the facts of the matter. God is not a fact but something sought to be infered by facts and explained in terms of them. Neither God nor Fred are explanations of anything merely by name.

I think most non-Fredists don't believe in Fred because deep down they don't like the idea of Fred -- or they want to be their own Fred.

The morning sun rose and burned off the ghosts; it seems they were nothing but shapes in the fog.

Thanks.

If you saw AC Grayling's debate with Tom Holland on Unbelievable you might think it wasn't much of a compliment. Holland was kind of shocked by his grasp of the subject matter in question.

Instead of Fred, I would prefer using Karen as an explanation. At least then, we could speak to the manager.
