Clearly it is a case of too much scientific education.  (Same with forum Craig, studying meteorology and geology.). Throw in some evolutionary psychology and boom!

In my view the problem has been that metaphysics has not kept up with scientific learning. Christians in general have let secularism teach their kids metaphysics which is a big mistake given the amount of naturalist metaphysics being assumed by science popularizers and the educational institutions. Naturalist metaphysics is just terrible but kids are accepting it because they are lulled into the superficial aspects that is difficult for a young person to see through.

Political posts are no longer appropriate to this forum.  That is due to a change in the rules which was the result of a few people abusing the privilege and at one time starting 3, 4 or more political topics per day which were mostly clickbait.  That being said, what I do think could still be appropriate is discussion about why Evangelicals believe Trump was sent by or appointed by God.  I'm interested in hearing what reasoning there is behind such a belief.
Colossians 1:16
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Quote
The conversations seem to go like this:

EVANGELICAL TRUMP SUPPORTER: Donald Trump was sent by God to give us a victory and restore our country to what it should be.
SKEPTIC*: Why would you believe a man with a moral character like Trump was sent by God?
EVANGELICAL TRUMP SUPPORTER: God can work His will through anyone, even someone who is seemingly unlikely.

The next line should be but rarely is: Can God work His will through a liberal Democrat?

*Note that the SKEPTIC in this conversation can just as easily be a conservative Christian as anyone else.
personal revelation.

Proverbs 8:30 "then I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man."

I often see this sentiment expressed, but what is it based on? Is it the verbal gaffs?

Not just gaffs. Silly things like letting his mask hang off one ear as if it is taped. Overreacting to very easy questions such as whether he has taken a cognitive test and asking a black reporter if he is a junkie, or telling a black questioner that he's not black if he doesn't support him. I saw an interview with his wife and it just seemed to me she was squeezing his knee perhaps to stay on topic. Normally, you would want your candidate to prove these assertions wrong, but it seems they are afraid to bring Biden into any situation that could validate such concerns such as his refusal to debate Chris Wallace. I have a relative who I think is in bad condition and the decline can happen in spurts. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw such a major decline either before or soon after the election. If he wins I doubt he'll finish off the term, and he'll be a leader who has very little access to the press or public. Look for lots of shots with him waving, getting on helicopters, etc. with just few statements. If he loses I bet he'll be completely out of the public within months of the election.

My recollection was you were a theist when we last discussed your stance, but maybe I missed your latest posts before you left. How did your move away from belief impact your family? If I recall you grew up in a conservative home and that can be especially traumatic. Did you become an engineer?

You might have me confused with someone else lol. My dad and brothers are all atheist, my mom only superficially Christian. I became a Christian primarily due to my own curiosity... it hasn't had a significant impact on family relations now that I'm agnostic. If anything, it has probably made things better.

I did become an engineer, a structural engineer more specifically. Solid job... but I'm honestly looking to change careers . Too many religious people in engineering :P

Good to hear from you, Saibomb.

Hey wonderer, hope you have been well! Still battling it out with Harvey and not agreeing on anything?

I thought you came from a more strict Christian home. My bad.

Wonderer is a determinist so in that sense it's a situation where one broken record is trying to convince another broken record.

No, but that seems to be pretty normal.

Any Christian who could honestly believe a malignant narcissist, a pathological liar and a serial adulterer could possibly be a messenger of God needs to seriously question whether they are even a Christian.

I mean that. I cannot see how any person familiar with the message of Christianity could lend any support to that vile man.

https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2020/09/04/partys-over-trump-orders-purge-of-critical-race-theory-from-federal-agencies/

At the direction of President Trump, the White House Office of Management and Budget will move to identify and eliminate any trace of “critical race theory” in the federal government....

According to the text of the memo sent out by OMB:

All agencies are directed to begin to identify all contracts or other agency spending related to any training on “critical race theory,” “white privilege,” or any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil.

[End quote]

Why do I mention this? Because it's something that Trump will do, and Biden would probably never do. The modern Democrat party, if anything, are on the side of that kind of extremist and racist ideology.

Trump has a lengthy history of racism, IMO. Definitely a racist.

Maybe if we redefine racism. But, not wanting to pay for health care for undocumented workers or not allowing unrestricted migration (etc) is really racism. Racism is not a term to say you are not a Democrat. Today it is being used as a political tool which is not right.

Look, I agree Trump is a real degenerate and an embarrassment as president. But, he has addressed the important issues of our times:

1) The rise of a powerful CCP bent on shifting the world toward communism and anti-democracy.
2) Unfettered expansion of socialism and anti-Capitalism.

I feel these two issues fully justify the risks and evil that Trump represents. I could change my mind on Biden, but I see him rolling on both of the above.

Isn't it the Trump administration that is willing to speak out against racist discrimination against asians in college admissions?

What is the Democrat party doing? Oh that's right, I think a lot of them actually support the *racist discrimination*!
