The Simple Reason Why Trump Lost
« on: November 09, 2020, 01:21:13 pm »
There are two kinds of voters: those who vote for persons and those who vote for platforms.

The reason why Trump lost is this: more people voted for a person rather than a platform.

In this video which one of my parishioners actually sent me, there are only a few reasons that were Trump specific, and even then, they were things that you could probably associate with ANY run-of-the-mill Republican. So it seems clear that within the GOP there was a contingent that was voting Trump simply because he was a Republican. For the people who were voting for Trump because of who he is, which we might call his base, they thoroughly enjoyed his cavalier attitude, antics, rants, and back-talk to the liberal elite and media. It seems clear now that in a national contest in which we are comparing one person to the other, it was Trump's election to lose. He could've acted more presidential when he took office, but he didn't. It seems people actually care about presidents acting presidential, and so I submit that virtually any career Democrat could've beaten Trump simply by presenting themselves more presidential, which was easy given how low Trump lowered the bar.

Spot on. Which is why I’ve said Biden is the non-Trump..and so he won. I think a lot of people in 2016 were willing to give him a chance in the hopes he’d grow into the role and at the very least, present himself as presidential in public. That obviously didn’t happen.  Bernie probably would’ve taken him down as well had he been the nominee. Thank God it was Biden.

and a haughty spirit before a fall.

I despise those who want a fake "presidential" president.

These are the same people who don't embrace the doctrine of total depravity.

Of course they are foreordained to be despicable as much as I was foreordained to despise them.

Maybe, but a moderate had to be a lot more palatable to Trump-averse Republicans than Sanders would have been.

Biden also avoided Hillary's biggest blunder: don't talk about or acknowledge Trump's base at all, don't thumb your nose at them.

I can't tell you how many moderate Republicans I know went to the polls a little extra hot because they were called "deplorable."

Insulting one's opponents tends to motivate them to vote. That applies to that one comment of Hillary's, and to hundreds of comments by Trump.

We want someone who behaves like an adult, is well-educated, respectable, polite, gentlemanly, erudite and articulate and is actually remembered for his  beautiful and memorable oration.

There are many things I despise about Trump. What is close to top of the list is just how primitive his way of communicating is; it simply isn't mature or adult. He never uses complex or interesting vocabulary; he doesn't give his rhetoric the sheen of erudition; the only adjective he ever uses to connote significance is "tremendous" which is just downright irritating. What mature adult splatters his speech with kid-tier superlatives like a child writing his first essay?

It's just not presidential and not even mature or adult or respectable. I've never heard him say a beautiful or memorable speech or quote before.

I asked this one question: How long will it take to repair the damage Trump has done? The answer is always the same. The day he leaves office. To me that means that the man himself is not the most important issue. I'm much more concerned about bad presidents whose policies cause real harm to the country. Socialism and the rise of a very dangerous China is by far bigger concerns.

I think a turnip could have beaten the crotch-grabbing degenerate.

Noncontingent: I despise those who want a fake "presidential" president.

If you and your family and everyone you know is totally depraved then you have my sympathy.
