The Problem of Evil
by John Murphy
Consider the following assertions: (1) God exists as an all-powerful, all-knowing, and perfectly good being.  (2) If #1 is true, then evil would not exist.  (3) However, evil exists.  Many believe that if #3 is true, then #1 can’t be true.  This is known as the Problem of Evil.  It is perhaps the leading cause of atheism today.  In this presentation, we will review whether it’s conceptually possible to exist in a universe where #1 and #3 can both be true.
About our Speaker
John Murphy is a Christian apologist with formal training through Reasons Institute, the educational arm of the science/faith think tank Reasons to Believe (RTB).  Mr. Murphy currently serves as the Director for the Austin chapter of Reasonable Faith, the apologetics ministry of William Lane Craig.  He is a member of City Church in Georgetown, Texas.  Mr. Murphy has made presentations in various public venues including schools, churches, radio, and other meeting places.  He has respectfully publicly debated atheist Brian Bolton, professor emeritus from the University of Arkansas; Professor Steve Brattang, on the Board of Directors for the Austin Community of Atheists; atheist Steve Mendelsohn, author of the book Shallow Draughts; and free thinker Andrew Bushard, founder and president of the Austin Freedom from Religion chapter.
